Rooftop and slab-mounted units

Package air conditioning units on the Central Coast

A package unit puts the whole system in one cabinet, on the roof or a slab outside. Lilac Air Conditioning supplies, installs, replaces, repairs and maintains them for shops, offices, medical suites, clubs and light industrial sites around the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie.

What a package unit is

A packaged air conditioning unit is a self-contained system. The compressor, coil, fans and controls all sit in one weatherproof cabinet, mounted on the roof or on a slab beside the building, and the cooled or heated air travels to the space through ducting.

Lilac Air Conditioning works on package units for shops, offices, medical suites, clubs and light industrial buildings, and Gary Lui handles both the install and the later servicing. Because there's no separate indoor plant, they're popular where floor space is tight.

Who this suits, and who it doesn't

Package units make sense when a business has one main open space to condition, or a building that's already set up for one and just needs the old unit replaced. They're less happy where every office needs its own temperature.

  • A good fit: a single tenancy with open floor space, an existing roof or slab position, and ductwork already in place or easy to run.
  • Worth a second look: several small rooms that need individual control, where split systems or VRF can give each room its own setting.
  • Needs checking first: roof strength, access for lifting equipment, noise near neighbours, and whether the electrical supply suits a replacement of a different size.

A like-for-like changeover, in order

Swapping a tired package unit for a new one sounds simple, and often is. This is the usual order of work, and Gary confirms the details for your site in the quote.

  • Gary inspects the existing unit, its mounting frame or curb, the duct connections and the electrical supply.
  • Gary checks the existing unit's size against how the space is used today, because a like-for-like swap isn't always the right size any more.
  • You get a written fixed-price quote that names the new unit, what's being reused, and what's being replaced.
  • The changeover is booked for a time that suits your trading hours.
  • The old unit comes out, the new one is set, ducts and electrics are reconnected, and the system is run and tested before Gary leaves.

Keeping downtime short

Nobody can promise a changeover with no interruption, and Lilac Air Conditioning won't pretend otherwise. What helps is planning. Access and lifting arrangements are agreed ahead of time, and the work is booked for after hours or a weekend where the site allows it.

The quote spells out the expected timing, so you can tell staff and customers what to expect. If something unexpected turns up on the roof, he talks to you before doing anything extra.

Repairs and maintenance on packaged plant

Package units sit outdoors and work hard. Filters clog, coils pick up dirt and salt, fan motors and belts wear, and condensate drains block. Lilac Air Conditioning repairs package units of the major brands, including ones it didn't install, and aims to respond to breakdowns the same day. A hot shop with the doors open doesn't wait well.

Planned maintenance catches most of these problems early. A visit covers filters, coils, fans, drains, electrical connections and controls, and Gary tells you what he finds. Gary can suggest a maintenance schedule that suits how hard your unit works.
